Lily’s Peanut Butter: From savory dishes to desserts

Lily’s Peanut Butter as the Filipinos’ spread of choice for a wide variety of breads has been established for decades now. Aside from its popularity as a staple of breakfast and merienda, Lily’s Peanut Butter is also a preferred ingredient by moms and chefs alike in their creations of fantastic recipes—from soups to appetizers to savory dishes to desserts.

One of the main reasons why they have made Lily’s Peanut Butter part of their kitchen arsenal is that the iconic Filipino brand, which is made by Newborn Food Products, has maintained its classic, highly-guarded recipe and use of premium ingredients to ensure quality of product and taste that generations of Filipinos have loved.

“By staying true to the original recipe and raw materials,” says Ramon Pua, president and CEO of Newborn Food Products, “we have never felt the need to add extenders, preservatives, emulsifiers and other chemical agents in our product. We only use two main ingredients: high quality peanuts and cane sugar.”

FOOD STOPS: Peri Peri Chicken

With too many chicken establishments around, the general taste became so common as batter-filled, fried and with  regular flavors with original and spicy only. Though I also love inasal, I would also come to a point that I need to taste a different flavor and style.

This is what I'm glad to try out Peri Peri Chicken. It's a Portuguese restaurant featuring their flame-grilled chicken, with special flavors of Peri Mild , Lemon and Garlic, and Peri Hot. Cuts can be of choices of solo, half and whole chicken. Interestingly when served, it seems to be laid flat on the plate yet you can see and smell the flavors it possess. When the spicy chicken was placed on our table, the first thing I noticed is not seeing the chicken itself, but the pungent and flavorful aroma of the different herbs and spices. Though it may not be super hot to stream our ears with smoke, it actually uses the spiciness to enhance the flavor of the chicken, thus making it more interesting.

The Peri Peri chicken can be paired with java rice or pita bread. Their smoothies are also available with a more affordable price than others, for this stop I got a mango banana smoothie. You can also boost your dining experience by also trying their salad.

I did also tried the other flavors like Peri Mild and Lemon and Garlic, and though not a spicy flavor fan, I did love the Peri Hot flavor and place the Highly Recommended seal of approval for this food stop. The rich falvor of spiciness is not just in the outside, but the inside as well.

They also have special sauces that can increase the spiciness level with a mix of sauces and spices mixed and served as condiments for the table. Actually you can also buy a bottle for them directly. Flavors are Hot Peri-peri sauce and Mild Peri-peri sauce.

And to cap off the Portuguese experience, take a bite on their desserts like the Cheesecakes and Tiramisu which are larger that I expected. And indeed, it made my food trip day filled with new yet delicous food with a complete meal with a roller coaster of great flavors and textures. If you love chicken with a different kick, yet more affordable compared to similar restaurants, Peri-peri chicken is indeed a must-try.

FOOD STOPS: Roboto San Japanese Grill Buffet

Buffet has been a foodie favorite for all time, and there is also a growing number of smokeless grill restaurants in the metro draws a lot of food trippers and also groups who wanted to have a good time with great food. And for the guilty glutton like me, these places of great buffet and grills is like nirvana for the foodie soul.

Roboto San Japanese Grill Buffet just opened this April and is indeed a different kind from regular buffet and grill restaurants. The name it self gives it that ambiance of a futuristic and Japanese Anime style that makes you step inside a spaceship. Seats have robots drawn at the the chairs and with creative angled dividers that still keeps the place a cosy place to dine. Inspired by the Sentai series or Japanese Robot cartoons like Astroboy, Voltes V, Mazinger Z , Voltron and many others is also a great place of nostalgia, and with monitors showing some episodes of the shows makes you stop and watch for a while, and while waiting for your food to be cooked. I was caught watching several episodes while grilling my food.

FOOD STOPS: Spoon Meals by FIGARO

Figaro never fails to surprize us as it is not just your ordinary coffee store but also a place where you can dine and enjoy your time. Plus they also have wifi for those who loves to stay connected. Now we have stopped by another Figaro store (Shangri La Plaza, 3rd floor) for new meals that they offer. These are the SPOON MEALS by Figaro.

For this offer they have two variants available and each is paired with a drink of your choice, either iced or brewed coffee or iced tea. The first is the CHICKEN THYME IN CREAMY CHEESE SAUCE (Php 215). Served with buttered corn and carrots and rice. These semi-bite sized portions are really packed with delicious chicken with the thyme just right to bring out the flavor. The creamy cheese  adds flair to the dish as it neutralizes the solid chicken texture. More than a plateful of colors, it serves a very full meal.
Now next is CHICKEN ALA KING (Php 215) made from diced chicken in special creamy sauce with vegetables served with buttered corn and carrots, steamed rice and your choice of  iced or brewed coffee or iced tea. A regular dish at parties and usually served with bread but also perfect with rice. With a rich creamy texture and taste of peppers and mushrooms. And since I do love creamy dishes makes this one my favorites.
These dishes are perfect for people who wants to reward themselves after a hard days work. And indeed these dish combination served with drinks makes you enjoy your day at Figaro's. No need for a knife because its perfect for a spoonful of flavor and delight.
Also when you have your spoon meals you can also take a bite on these delicious desserts that brings out more smiles on your taste-buds. These are the Old English Matrimonial bar and The Banana Hazelnut Turnover.  Distinctively different but both gives your sweet tooth a treat with the right fruity goodness. Among the two I chose the Banana Hazelnut Turnover as it is oozing with sweet banana filling, not too hot nor too cold, but just right and easy to chew. The Matrimony Bar on the other hand is crunchy yet very tasty and even the bread crumbs are fun to eat.
