Adobo as the Pinoy National Dish?

The Filipino people are a patriotic nation. We take pride in our heroes, from Jose Rizal and Andres Bonifacio, to modern-day heroes like Manny Pacquiao. We are blessed with some of the most beautiful beaches and mountains in the world. We are also characterized by our fondness for food, so it is suprising that we do not have a national dish.

Informally, ask any Pinoy what our national dish should be and he or she will instantly say, "Adobo!" complete with a twinkle in their eye and a rumble in their stomach. Adobo is deeply personal dish to every Filipino. From Batanes to Tawi-Tawi, every Filipino family has their own special heirloom recipes handed down from their mothers. The versatility of Adobo makes it so that you can adjust and fine tune the recipes according to personal taste, and to the availability of local ingredients.

Most nations around the world have their own national dishes, and it is time for the Filipino to take pride in what is uniquely our own. Ours is not the first effort to make Adobo the national dish of the Philippines. In 2014, House Bill 3926 (led by Hon. Rene Relampagos from the first district of Bohol) was filed in congress to declare Adobo as our national dish, but to this day, the bill its still up for final deliberation.

Hence the Adobo Movement is born.

It's about time for us to unite in making Adobo , the official national dish!

The Adobo Movement is a movement that hist close to home because Adobo is a dish that is both personal, as it is national. Adobo is familiar; it reminds us of home, it rekindles our longing for family, it identifies us as a Filipino and as a nation.

Their goal is to hit at least 500,000 signatures to support House Bill 3926 to officially instate Adobo as the National Dish of the Philippines.
