FOOD NEWS: SumoSam's New Branch and Bento Box

If you think that Gilmore is just a place for electronics, computers and gadgets, think again. There is a new commercial area that offers dinning establishments along Gilmore street and one of them is Sumosam Gilmore!

One of the most exciting openings along the Gilmore-New Manila-Ortigas-San ]uan area carne right before Christrnas when Surnosam unveiled its newest branch located at Granada Street, Brgy. Valencia and judging by its lunch and dinner crowd: it’s a hands-down winner. Similar to all its branches, Sumosarn Gilmore carries a vast selection of premium favourites from salads to a variety of rolls, sushi, tempura, tonkatsu, gyudon, ramen, teppan, donburi, and perefectly grilled seafood and steaks. The branch remains consistent to Surnosam’s concept of providing high quality Japanese dishes in generous American portioning and presentation.

The outlet is indeed a visual treat. It is forward in its aesthetics with its use of wooden
planks and textured paints. The warm lighting and the comfortable couches deliver a cheerful and casual ambiance. The operation spills outside to a mini-veranda where guests can sip a l1ot cup of tea or sake after meals.

Bubble Tea For You and Me!

Fudfyt is a big fan of Japanese food, it so obvious that almost the post here are of the japanese cuisine but of course it should have something very unique that one would take great interest and have a food trip at these establishments and for this post, we now look at Bubble Tea Restaurant!
I have seen this store since I am a regular patron of SM Megamall wherein the first branch was opened. I was very curious about this resto but from afar it seems small to be a restaurant, but actually it was its unique feel, like its menu that offers the Japanese variety with a western twist.

I had the chance to try what they offer when I attended their bloggers' night at their branch in Tomas Morato. It was a food trip heaven, as each platter stimulates the eyes and also makes mouth water. The servings were very fulfilling with each bite. Even a gladiator foodie like me waved my white flag of defeat, but of blissful defeat. Perfect for small and large gatherings, you would really take the time to savor and enjoy their specialty.
Speaking of specialty, of course, the famous Bubble tea stands out like the innovative taste of the japaneese plus the sweet loving appetite of Pinoys. Unlike the 'sago' drink that others offer, Bubble takes this one to a new level as the tapioca pearls are of different sizes that gives it a distinct feel and flavor, hence like bubbles in a soda, it makes the drink really fun to drink. Some of the flavors available are Chocolate, Strawberry, Almond, Coffee, Red Beans, Taro and Honeydew to name a few.  I personally liked Taro and Coffee as it fits mylifestyle as a hectic person but also a simple dude. Thus you can always find yourself in every flavor that they have.

Must tries on the menu would be, their gyudon, takoyaki and shushis. The owners knew that these are already known japanese dishes but should have a new and flavorful taste. They said that they manufacture most of the materials and supplies needed for each dish.

Later on this week, actually just a while ago, me and my friends went to bubble tea in Megamall to have our weekly food trip. I actually ordered Tereyaki Chicken Don, which is made my tummy full at the first part of the food trip. My friends also ordered the same thing and also Pork Tonkatsu. They also tasted bubble tea glasses of Honeydew and Almond flavor.

If you want to experience a new twist in Japanese cuisine you can visit a Bubble tea branch near you. They currently have the stores in Megamall, Tomas Morato, and North EDSA and soon to open in Wilson st., Greenhills.

While you at it you can join their PICHUR PICHUR contest and have the chance to win a Nikon S230! For more details, you can visit their fan page and give them a big 'LIKE'!

Yoshinoya Bloggers' Eating Contest!

EATING CONTEST!

Its actually my first time to partake in a eating contest, and the thing that its a Japanese food that I like, Gyudon. This event happened on May 5th, 2010 at Yoshinoya SM Megamall. 15 bloggers from the metro competed to be crowned as the 'hungriest' gyudon eating blogger. Most of them were are friends so it was not hard to get along and feel comfortable. And even with the other contestants were bubbly yet, I know they came prepared and ready to eat.

The mechanics are simple, the winner is determined by the most number of gyudon bowls eaten within 5 minutes. And when the race was on, I did make an effort to gulp it all up but I never had a technique, just munch munch and munch. But here is a small video about the event and you'll be the judge.

And the winner is Jayson Biadong! This dude ate 4 bowls against Jonel and me with 3 bowls only! Although I did not win it, it was very fun to enjoy a big bowl of gyudon from yoshinoya. And since they are present in Anime and Cosplay events, this will not be the last time I will encounter the big bowl!

FOOD STOPS: Yoshinoya!

I always and ever will love Japanese food, for the flavor, style and many other aspects. I loved how they are made, the variety of their cuisine and most especially the different texture and flavor in each dish. And among the Japanese restaurants that I would admire for having great Japanese food is Yoshinoya. Yoshinoya has been a very well-established brand in Japan for more than a century and still a household name for the Japanese people. Just a quick history about  its origins, Yoshinoya come from the root word "Yoshino", which  is a old province in Old Tokyo and "Ya", which means house. Yoshinoya is very known for their Gyudon (beef bowls) and other dishes like Chicken Teriyaki, Beef Yakiniku, Pork/Chicken/Fish Katsudon and Pork/Chicken Hayashi
For now, Yoshinoya has seven branches in Metro Manila (Parksquare 1, SM Megamall, Robinsons Galleria, SM North EDSA, Greenhills, SM Mall of Asia, and Sta Lucia). And with each branch you can enjoy authentic Japanese dishes in a fast food setting, so you can enjoy your meal more than waiting for it to be done.

Yoshinoya is also present in Anime Conventions and Events that are attended by many Cosplayers, Anime  Otakus,  and Japanese enthusialists.  Yoshinoya will offer new dishes in the future that would  further enhance your Japanese cuisine experience like enjoying the meal as if it really came from Japan! Also they are planning expansion for another branch so it could serve more customers here in Metro Manila in which a growing population are now hungry to get a taste of the world famous Gyudon!
