Sponge Cakes are the fastest rising food craze in the metro right now. But to taste one maybe far more difficult than finding a milk tea shop. But we might need not to go far as Original Cake has opened its doors in SM San Lazaro.
Founded in Taiwan on 2010, Original Cake opened in Tamsui Old Street and have branched out across the world. Original Cake has opened in countries such as Singapore. Malaysia, Indonesia and finally, here in the Philippines. Located at the second floor SM San Lazaro, the store just opened last January 2019.
Serving their delectable smell of freshly baked Taiwanese Castella Cakes made with simple and all-natural ingredients like egg, milk, vegetable oil. sugar and flour (from Taiwan). Each flufty cake uses the same ingredients as the periect base and is baked fresh everyday in front of customers who quickly line up as soon as a tray of freshly baked cake is pulled out from the oven. Bakers shout "Lai! dan gao chu lu wei! (来!蛋糕出炉喂! )" which literally means, The cake is coming out of the oven!" in Chinese.
They currently have three main flavors for their sponge cakes: Original Cake, Golden Cheese Cake, and Chocolate Cake. Each having their distinct flavor and texture, seeing them to be prepared live also makes Original cake a feast for the eyes and the mouth.
Original Cake
The cake of all cakes, this is made from a golden mixture of fresh eggs. milk and flour. With its original flavor, it brings out childhood memories when you look forward to snack time. Take a bite and experience the taste of happiness.
Golden Cheese Cake
This cake contains hot sliced cheese filling plus cheese powder sprinkled on top, these flavors gives a sweet salty flavor which cheese lovers would really love. Propbably the most aromatic among the three because of the cheese bits placed above the cake so it can't be confused with original cake flavor.
When you bite in to this cake, you will surely love the soft cake and then the firm cheese at the bottom. I consider this my favorite among the three.

This one has a rich chocolate smell and creamy mouthfeel, the dark bittersweet look and taste come form the Hershey's chocolate chips in the cakes. For chocolate lover's like me this also satisfies the choco urges as the aroma and flavor is so rich.
The cocoa powder used in this recipe is even imported from Holland to ensure the rich quality of chocolate taste. There's also limited edition crunchy treats which Original Cake produces in small batches.

Cranberry Cake - blending into the rich aroma of cakes, fresh and pink cranberries are added into the cakes to give it a lovely taste.
The Snowflake Crisp is made from the mix of superfoods, cranberries and dates combined with biscuits, marshmallows, mixed cream and milk powder which gives it that crunchy and chewy texture. It is sweet, a little milky and crispy!
Original Cake is expanding to as much as 9 stores all across Metro Manila: Ayala Circuit, Eastwood Mall. Lucky Chinatown Mall, SM City Manila, SM City Sucat and Robinson Galleria!
