Food Stops: Akira The Art of Teppanyaki and Sushi

Japanese Restaurants here, there and everywhere. What used to be rarely seen in the metro is now a common cuisine trend here in the Philippines. And with so many restaurants offering a common menu, it would make the Japenese experience quite boring nowadays. Now how do we spice up the experience and level up the taste and flavor of the well loved Nippon delicacies. Akira The Art of Teppanyaki and Sushi can live out to that.

We already loved the Japanese restaurants of Sumosam and Tokyo Grill, now they made a great leap to a more sophisticated and more fun dining experience with Akira. Located in Alphaland Makati Place (Alphaland Makati Place, 7232 Ayala Avenue Extension Corner Malugay St., Makati City, Beside The Columns Makati) the restaurant itself is a work of industrial artist and world famous furniture maker Kenneth Cobonpue. From the wall design of a simulated Japanese forest with the seats which were made exclusively for Akira makes the mix of the traditional and the modern art for the store. They also have a Teppanyaki table wherein they have a Chef that can do a performance of cooking your food in style. Here is a sample video of Chef Lucky on how they do it.

Now lets get to the menu, of course Sushi and Tempura are a must but they pushed it a notch by making their Mixed Sushi platter bigger and more delectable. And they do have a more diverse selection of sushi compare to the others and one of the rarest would be the Tako shushi (octopus). Tempura are also made bigger with the same great combination of the batter, shrimp and the dip. Spicy Ikura is a good choice for a mix of spice and umami which can be ordered ala carte.

You can also go for meat selections like the and Beef Teppanyaki and even have Sake on the side. How about Kani Salad that can also be the great appetizer to start your food trip. And after the hearty meals you can also go for DESSERTS! And One should never pass on their Ice Cream Parfait  composed of ice cream with fudge and some fruit which is topped with a cherry and Belgian chocolate!

There are also the beverages for all occasions from juices, iced teas, mocktails and cocktails (Mudslide, Sex on the Beach, Cosmopolitan, Kamikazee, Absolute Sex and Mojito). And these goes well with a recommended menu which makes the experience more enjoyable. And you would be in a weekend party mode, you can also check out their Yamazaki and Hakushu Nights for Fridays and Saturdays with music spins by DJ Robby Lopez while having a Teppanyaki Demonstration.

And for our choice for this food stop, the choice will be a draw for MIXED SUSHI and BEEF TEPPANYAKI! Yes both have proven themselves to be the flagship menu of Akira with a whole new way of experiencing Japanese Food. The Mixed Sushi is a good start to pick which sushi would be perfect for you, then if you have your favorites you can opt to have them ordered individually. The Beef Teppanyaki is juicy with just the right mix of garnish, best if you have them prepared in front of your eyes since we eat more with our eyes than our mouth. Teehee.
The concept of Akira is also available with group restaurant BANZAI located at the SM Mall of Asia Seaside which is a bigger version of Akira.
